BookBoon–Freeing Knowledge

Hi you guys!

I just want to promote a site, that I believe pave the way for the future of books and knowledge. Wikipedia revolutionized the way in which we learn and understand things.

Bookboon provides 500 books that have information on a large variety of issues. Everything from operating Microsoft Office to tackling issues of climate change is discussed. All you need to do is give the site your e-mail (give them one that you never use), and you can download the book.

They are all writer by professionals and the books are sponsored by companies through advertisements. If people catch onto this, and publish their own books via bookboon, I believe it will revolutionize the way in which we read and learn. First it was Wikipedia, then it was Khanacademy, and I believe bookboon will also help in making knowledge more free. Lets all support it.

Hosting files

Hi guys!

I have not been able to provide you with new resources for a very valid reason: I’m all out. Sad smile

But, what I do want to tell you about is a site that allows you to host files, and you can directly download these files without any waiting. Its as if you own your own hosting service.

http://kiwi6.com/ is by far the best hosting service for small individual files that I have seen in a long time. Please do take advantage of it to post good resources. You can post all types of files, but you have a maximum limit of 100 MB. There is no storage limit however! Smile

KidZui - www.kidzui.com

image

I have A LOT of young cousins that always inquire about what I aim to do by relentlessly pressing down hard on bottom half of what they call “the the little brown box” – I call it my laptop.

But I am sure, that people who have younger brothers or sisters will at one point in their lives want to know what is it that we do on the so called “internet”. And that is where there is a potential problem could arise.

imageNow if you are like me whom parents and relatives trust, you will want to keep up your reputation of being a good older brother to your younger brothers and sisters. But the internet can be a vantage point to a child’s understanding or a complete disaster to their upbringing. Now, to protect these children from potential hazards, some wonderful people have developed a software called KidZui. It is essentially a browser that allows children to surf on the internet without facing potential hazards in the internet.

image

It will allow children to play games, watch videos and also learn from the internet at a safe distance.

image

The thing that is great about KidZui is the simple to use interface, that allows children not to get too bogged down with the nitty-gritty of going from one page to another. KidZui has been really successful over its lifetime earning many acknowledgements from people all over the tech reporting industry and also the free press.

Go on ahead and try it out. I am sure that you will love what you see.

This Website offers the most comprehensive collection of books that I have seen. It has books ranging from Algebra to Zoology.

image

You need a valid Gmail ID in order to gain access to the site. Once you are there, you will have access to some great reading material. I myself have uploaded all the books that I have posted on this site on Library.nu.

Often when downloading, you will need to fill in CAPTCHA, also when you have download the respective .RAR file, make sure that you have the password of the file highlighted in green.

The Video below, will give you a comprehensive guide as to how you can avail of the website.

Microsoft Expression

Often in schools, we have to create web-pages for exams, homework or even our personal use. The IGCSE specification for ICT has a web development part in the specification. Often, people have moved on to Adobe Dream Weaver, which is a web tool, that I find inadequate for students studying web development, it has a complex user interface, and having used Microsoft Office applications all my student life, it seems difficult to handle. So, I started looking for an alternative.

Microsoft is not know for its design software. But the new Microsoft Expression Suite offers a rich tool for building web-pages. There are four parts to the package:

  • Expression Web
  • Expression Blend
  • Expression Design
  • Expression Encoder

After the announcement, that Microsoft was to discontinue Microsoft FrontPage (the part of the office suite that designed web-pages) it had different plans for web designing. Microsoft Expression web is the main part of the Expression package, being the HTML and CSS editor.

Expression is aimed at web developers and that is why it comes with a basic Design tool, that can help you design logos, templates etc. I do not find it as detailed as Adobe’s products, that are used for high end graphics, I personally find this a far better tool for the web. However, I am talking about Microsoft Expression 3; the next version may see many changes.

What is also great about is that there is not CD Key or any other hassle, so its a very easy install.

If you are in an American Public school, you can also get your hands onto the product for free.

But for serious web developers, there is something very special. Microsoft Expression can be used to make Silverlight applications, a very lightweight and powerful tool, like flash, but a lot more stable and a lot more capable of different applications.

Flash has many glitches as well as potential weaknesses for hacker, but Silverlight is a powerful piece of technology synthesised using both C++ and Microsoft’s latest language C#.

With this, you can create several applications as well as video footage of things like a camping trip etc.

This package also has a SuperPreview mode, that can show you, how a webpage will look in different web browsers, so that you can spot any potential problems users may face.

In all, I find this a superb piece of software for students as well as web developers. To learn more, simply click on the image at the top.
